Your trusted partner in expanding access to adult education across Indiana.
Indiana Online Only (IOO) is the state’s only fully virtual adult education program, operated through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development (DWD). We serve learners across the state who are seeking flexible, accessible, and high-quality educational opportunities.
Students must meet the following criteria to enroll:
Be 16 years of age or older
Not currently enrolled in high school
If under 18, have parent or guardian permission (signature required)
Have a valid email address and access to a computer with internet
Be motivated, independent learners ready to engage in an online environment
We guide students through a three-step intake process:
TABE Testing – virtually proctored by IOO
We accept TABE scores from another provider if they are dated within the last 30 days
Orientation – conducted in Google Classroom, with clear deadlines and interactive tutorials
We offer new intake sessions every week. Students may select the session that works best for their schedule.
All student referrals must be submitted through our official referral form
We collaborate with ABE providers and community partners looking to:
Offer virtual options in rural or underserved areas
Help students overcome transportation or scheduling barriers
Reduce or eliminate waitlists for in-person classes
Credit & Hours: What Providers Need to Know
You retain the student’s InTERS record
Both IOO and your program receive credit if the student earns 12 hours with each program
Instructional hours do not transfer — they are tracked independently in InTERS
This allows you to offer students more options without losing performance credit.
IOO is designed for students who are ready to take ownership of their learning.
Our curriculum is delivered 100% online and aligned with HSE preparation standards.
Students work independently through their assigned coursework, with access to tools and resources available 24/7.
Each student is assigned a credentialed instructor who monitors progress, provides feedback, and sends regular communication.
Students can schedule live one-on-one sessions with their instructor as needed for extra support.
A Student Success Coach is also available to assist with goal setting, time management, and staying on track.
This flexible model allows students to learn on their own schedule while still receiving the personal support they need to succeed.
Here’s what providers can expect students to receive after being referred to IOO—and how to troubleshoot common concerns if students reach back out to you:
Step 1: Referral Submitted
Timing: Within 24 business hours (Mon–Thurs)
Student Receives: An email asking them to select their intake session
Troubleshooting Tip: If the student says they haven’t received anything, remind them to check their spam folder for messages .If nothing is there, contact us to verify the email address submitted.
Step 2: Intake Session Chosen
Student Receives: A confirmation message with a reminder that more detailed instructions will be sent the Friday before their session starts
Troubleshooting Tip: If a student forgets when they signed up, they should reference the confirmation email or reach out to us.
Step 3: Friday Before Intake Session
Student Receives: Welcome email from IOO with a link to our Pre-Intake Survey (required to receive Google Classroom link). This serves as their confirmation that they will be starting class with us on the following Tuesday. If they do not coplete this survey, they will not recieve the link inviting them to join the orieantion.
Troubleshooting Tip: If a student didn’t receive the Friday email, check spam and verify they completed the referral form correctly. Students must complete the pre-survey before moving to the next step.
Step 4: Tuesday – TABE Testing Orientation Begins
Student Receives: A link to join the Google Classroom by 9am. They will complete a few assignments that are needed to prepare their computer for online TABE testing. They have 24 hours to complete these assignmnets. If they complete these assignmnets by 9am on Wednesday, they will recives Testing instructions and a PickTime link to schedule their TABE test. They have until Tuesday of the following week to schedule and compelte their TABE test.
Troubleshooting Tip: If a student says they’re confused, they should be reminded to check their email carefully—most instructions are there with visuals and links. They can also reach out to the orientation facilitator BEFORE the deadline for compeltion has passed.
Step 5: Wednesday Evening- Week 2
Student Receives: An invitation to Google Classroom Orientation if they completed TABE testing by the deadline.
Troubleshooting Tip: Students have 24 hours to complete all assignments in Google Classroom. Late submissions are not accepted, but they can reapply after 90 days
Step 6: Completed Orientation
Student Receives: A final message with next steps to schedule a Meet and Greet with their instrucotr. The will recive this by Friday morning at 9am. The have the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday to complete their Meet and Greet. Their first day of class will be on Thursday of this week,
Troubleshooting Tip: If a student says “I completed everything but haven’t heard back,” remind them the turnaround for final confirmation may take up to 24 hours after the deadline. If they did not subbmit ALL of their work on time, they will not be able to proceed to the next step.
IOO is clear from the start that deadlines are non-negotiable
Students who miss a required step or no-show an appointment are placed on a 90-day waitlist before they can reapply
Providers are notified only if they request updates on referred students
Q: How do I refer a student?
A: Use our official referral form. It’s the only method we accept.
Q: What if a student already completed ICE or TABE elsewhere?
A: We will accept a TABE test from another provider if it's dated within 30 days. Students will still complete IOO orientation. Attach any TABE or ICE results that you have to the referal form.
Q: Can we both get credit for the same student?
A: Yes! As long as the student logs 12 hours with IOO and 12 hours with your program, both sites receive full credit in InTERS.
Q: Who communicates with the student after referral?
A: IOO handles all communication with the student after referral. If you’d like to be copied on updates, just note that on the referral form. You will need to maintain contact with them at least every 90 days to prevent them exiting from your porgram.
Q: Do students need to be tech-savvy?
A: Students need to be comfortable navigating email, logging into online platforms, and submitting digital assignments.
